We’re Hiring! Warehouse Operations & Logistics Manager

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on and organised individual to manage the logistics and operational side of our event furniture and décor business. The role involves overseeing warehouse operations, co-ordinating event logistics, managing stock and, controlling operational costs to ensure that every event and dry hire is prepared accurately and executed seamlessly.

You would be joining Hire Society – a medium-sized creative, vibrant and trend-setting event design company based in Wynberg, Sandton. We style events from concept generation through to execution in the areas of event design and furniture for corporate and private clients.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is a mid-level to senior operational role focused on managing all logistics, warehouse and stock control functions within the business.

Specific areas of management relate to stock control; storage, maintenance and repair of furniture; fleet management; warehouse staff HR and planning; packaging; picking and packing; transport logistics.

As the Operations & Logistics Manager, you will:

  • be entirely responsible for creating accurate and timely picking lists in Microsoft Excel once event jobs are confirmed; checking across all picking lists and invoices for stock clashes or booking overlaps; resolving said overlaps proactively; working with the warehouse manager and co-ordinators to ensure picking lists are accurately and efficiently pulled. This is a key component of your job.
  • liaise with the paint and carpentry departments to develop and maintain systems whereby repairs, maintenance, and painting are carried out (1) only when necessary, (2) with minimal waste, (3) using the best possible route and resources.
  • liaise with the various warehouse departments and relevant office liaison to develop and maintain processes for furniture manufacture, colour changes, and repair for specific events within budget and timelines
  • coordinate deliveries, collections and event schedules with the current transport manager
  • liaise with suppliers to secure additional stock, transport or services when required
  • track and control expenses relating to fuel, packaging, paint and other consumables, working with current systems and the warehouse manager
  • identify and implement efficiencies to reduce waste and improve productivity
  • implement loss prevention and shrinkage control measures to minimise theft, misuse and wastage
  • oversee stock control, regular stock counts and investigation of discrepancies, working with the warehouse manager and office
  • lead the setup and implementation of a new stock control system, working with the office lead, warehouse manager and co-ordinators
  • act as the key link between the office and warehouse teams
  • manage warehouse staff, drivers and casual labour with the transport manager
  • implement and maintain operational procedures and best practice
  • ensure health and safety standards are followed
  • monitor and manage all operational costs relating to the warehouse and provide operational reporting and feedback to management
  • support the events office team as needed to ensure that every event is executed to the required standard and timeframe

Requirements

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Matric.
  • A minimum of seven years’ experience in logistics or operations

management

  • Experience with stock control and inventory management
  • Experience implementing or working with operational systems and procedures
  • Experience in events would be beneficial
  • Experience in the maintenance or manufacture of furniture would be beneficial
  • Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to manage teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Own, reliable transport and valid driver’s licence
